Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

 

What is the EYFS?

• The EYFS is a statutory framework to support children’s learning and development from birth until the end of the Reception year in school
• The EYFS framework describes how early years practitioners should work with children and their families to enable children to reach their full potential and meet the appropriate age related development milestones

• The EYFS framework also describes how children should be kept safe and cared for

 

There are seven areas of learning and development set out in the EYFS framework. We value all seven areas of learning and development and understand that they are connected to one another and are all equally important.

 

Three prime areas are crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

Physical Development

 

Children’s learning and development is also guided through four specific areas in which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. * Literacy   * Mathematics   * Understanding the World   * Expressive arts and design

Practitioners provide children with a range of play and learning experiences in all these areas appropriate for their stage of development to help them to learn and develop new skills working towards the Early Learning Goals at the end of their time in Reception.

Characteristics of Effective learning

 

The characteristics of learning play a central role in a child’s learning and in becoming an effective learner. The characteristics run through and underpin all 7 areas of learning and development. The characteristics also link with our star values.

Playing and Exploring - Children investigate and experience things and ‘have a go’.

Active Learning - Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties and enjoy achievements.

Creating and Thinking Critically - Children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas and develop strategies for doing things.

At the end of the year your child’s report will have comments about how your child demonstrates the three characteristics of learning.

Tapestry

 

Tapestry is the online learning journal that we use to record your children's learning through photographs and written observations. We encourage parents and carers to share the learning, interests, activities and celebrations that the children experience at home by uploading your own photos and short explanation.   

 

If you need support and guidance with using this, please see a member of staff who will be more than happy to go through any questions with you.

Lunches

 

Packed Lunches:

If your child is having packed lunches here are a few things to note:

• They will need to bring a lunchbox which they will store on the lunch box trolley. Please make sure it is not too big!
• Please ensure the lunchbox is clearly marked with your child's name.
• The children will use their water bottles so there is no need to send in additional drinks.
• You know how much your child will eat, please pack accordingly! 
• In line with our Food and Nutrition policy, we encourage you to send your child in with a balanced lunch (for example; a sandwich, piece of fruit, yoghurt)
• Whilst chocolate biscuits are welcome, we ask that your child does not bring in any chocolate bars or sweets.

 

URGENT

To protect children who may have nut allergies, we kindly ask that every child brings in lunches which are nut free (including no peanut butter or chocolate spread)

 

 

Hot school meals:

Children are welcome to purchase a hot school meal from Term 2.

There is a charge per meal which must be paid for via Parent Pay.

You can access the menu for the meals via the school website.  You can use this to choose which days are best suited to your child's preferences.
