Term 5

Term 5:

Welcome back, we hope you enjoyed the Easter break! We are looking forward to Term 5 and the fun that it will bring.

Computing

In computing week, we will look at grouping data using the chrome books. This will introduce the children to data and information and teach them how to manipulate this.

Enquiry Learning

We will begin with a new enquiry, ‘How do we move around?’ where we will be engineers identifying and exploring existing mechanisms, levers and sliders and then using this knowledge to make our own. Our challenge will be to create a moving picture related to our local area. Look out for new vocabulary such as joints, product, design, make, evaluate and practice.

Philosophers (PSHE)

We move onto the 'Relationships' jigsaw piece. The children will learn about different types of families, ways in which to greet people, know which people can help us and identify ways in which they can be their own best friend.

Mathematicians:

We will continue to explore addition and subtraction facts within 10 before moving on to numbers 0-20. We will finish the term looking at unitising and coin recognition.

Authors:

At the beginning of this term, we will be exploring the book “A River”. Our challenge as an author writer will be to write a journey tale and write instructions for a moving picture. We will use adjectives to write a setting description before planning our story using pictures first. Once we have done this we will plan our writing, use our ongoing editing skills to improve upon this before publishing this.

Athletes (PE)

The children have 2 sessions weekly. This term, one of these sessions will be a sports coach whilst the other they will continue with their personal and social skills through REAL PE.

Key Information

Homework: Your child will be given phonics homework every Friday where they can practise GPC's learned as well as stretching and reading real words and nonsense words (alien words).  We would be really grateful if you could support them in their learning

P.E:

Venus and Neptune now both have PE on a Tuesday and a Thursday.

Please send your child to school in their P.E kit on their P.E days. This should include a plain white t-shirt, black shorts, leggings or joggers and appropriate black P.E shoes

Communication: You can contact your child's class teacher through their class email address: venus@stannesinfants.co.uk and neptune@stannesinfants.co.uk. Please bear in mind that this inbox is not checked on a daily basis. Class teachers are also available briefly at the end of the day, once all children have been collected.
